A Spy Meets Jesus

In a secure location, a group of Persian-speaking believers met for a rare and precious opportunity — a TWR Canada conference where they could study God’s Word, strengthen their faith, and find encouragement in community.

In their homeland, gathering for worship is forbidden. Yet, by God’s grace, they were able to meet freely in a nearby country.

But among them was a spy.

One of the participants, posing as a spiritual seeker, had a hidden mission: infiltrate the group, secretly record their activities, and report back to the authorities.

Unknown to the others, he filmed them as they prayed — capturing the very faith that could cost them everything.

Then, something unexpected happened. During one of the teaching sessions, the topic turned to God’s final judgment—the sobering truth that one day, every person will stand before their Creator and give an account of their life. The message was clear: God sees every hidden action, every secret motive. There is no escaping His truth.

That night, the spy knocked on the Persian ministry leader’s door. He hesitated for a moment before confessing the truth.

“I was sent to spy on you,” he admitted. “I filmed everything. But the message I heard today — about God’s judgment — has shaken me. I realize now that what I am doing is wrong… and against God.”

Tears welled in his eyes as he reached for his phone. The next day, in front of the group, he deleted every recording. Overcome with conviction and fear of the Lord, he asked how he could follow Jesus. But the weight of his decision was heavy. He knew what was at stake: losing his job, risking his future, and possibly facing severe consequences for his conversion.

Yet, his heart was changed. Despite his fear, he surrendered his life to Christ, choosing to follow Him—even in secret.

This is resurrection power. This is the transforming work of the Gospel.

Please pray for this new brother in Christ as he navigates the difficult path ahead, walking in faith in one of the most dangerous and hostile places to be a Christian.
