Redemption Promised
Redemption Promised
“‘And a Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression,’ declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 59:20)
The rest of Isaiah 59 speaks of both God’s judgment and redemption. God’s people had wandered from him and verses 15 and 16 tell us that God was displeased with the lack of justice in the land and saw that there was no one who could defend his people. His people were unable to pull themselves out of the situation they had gotten themselves into, but God had a plan that long preceded them. God himself would provide the way of salvation and righteousness.
At the time, Israel’s willingness and ability to listen and understand was lacking. However, it was important to God that he himself promise them through his prophets that a Redeemer was coming who would deliver them from their sin! This promise wasn’t only helpful to the faithful few in Israel at the time but also serves as a means of confidence for us today! It is no accident that God put promise after promise into his Word of the Redeemer to come. That promise is for us, too, and is proven in the coming of Jesus!
We have the benefit of hindsight in that we have heard the promise and seen the Redeemer and his work! We are still waiting to see all things made new, but while we wait, let us be confident and glad in the promises of God, knowing that we will see the redemption of all things!
