Radiance in Power
Radiance in Power
“And the LORD said to Moses, ‘Is the LORD’s hand shortened? Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not.’” (Numbers 11:23)
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30-31)
All throughout the Old Testament, God’s mighty power is put on display working miracles and proving over and over again to his people that he is trustworthy, mighty, and God above all gods. In the same way, God’s power was put on display as Jesus performed miracles on earth, testifying to the truth that he is the Son of God. In both cases, God was still not believed by many.
In the Old Testament, the people of Israel were too afraid and stubborn and distracted to fix their eyes on the Lord. In the New Testament, the people expected someone big and flashy and impressive to overthrow the Romans. Today too the power of God is often ignored and brushed aside. In every generation, though God’s worth and might and deity are put on display before our very eyes, many people harden their hearts, refusing to believe. But, in every generation, Jesus stays the same and God preserves for himself a remnant of people who are faithful.
Let us not harden our hearts or brush aside our powerful God but praise Jesus for his awesome saving power.
