Radiance in Love

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! Let Israel say, ‘His steadfast love endures forever.’ Let the house of Aaron say, ‘His steadfast love endures forever.’ Let those who fear the LORD say, ‘His steadfast love endures forever.’” (Psalm 118:1-4)

“‘Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.’” (John 15:13)

Jesus radiates the glory of God by the way that he loves.

The whole Bible is filled with references to the steadfast love of God. The steadfast love of the Lord is stated to be better even than life itself (Ps. 63:3). The ongoing and unending nature of God’s love is emphasized three times within the simple phrase, “his steadfast love endures forever.”

What kind of love is it? Steadfast. What does it do? Endures. For how long? Forever. Clearly, this love is the greatest of all time!

Then Jesus makes the claim that there is no greater love than the love of someone laying down his life for a friend. And this is the type of love that Jesus showed us. Before we were his friends, while we were still bitter enemies, he laid down his life for us.

Lord, let us never forget your steadfast love displayed on that cross!
