God Made Us Alive Through the Cross
God Made Us Alive Through the Cross
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—” (Ephesians 2:4-5)
We have a merciful and gracious God. He is not in debt to us in any way, but because of his love and compassion towards us, he has brought us to life out of our deadness in sin. As Christ has been raised to live, so we, too, are raised together with him!
Paul writes a similar sentiment to the Colossians, saying, “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by cancelling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14).
Our sins are nailed to the cross with Christ, our record of debt is cancelled, we are fully forgiven, and because Jesus is alive, we are too! When we look to the cross and trust in Christ and his salvation, we can also trust that we have been made alive and new.
What wonderful news this is! We are new creations in Christ. Praise be to our merciful, loving and gracious God!
