Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
“Come, thou long expected Jesus/Born to set your people free.”
Ever since the events of Genesis 3, God’s people have waited for the promised One who would come to set his people free. After Adam’s first sin, the world waited for the fulfillment of God’s promise to Adam and Eve. Though Old Testament believers could not put a name to this promised One, we now know that Jesus is the long-expected Saviour and Messiah.
Charles Wesley wrote “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus,” which stands as a beautiful reminder that Jesus is our strength and consolation, the hope of all the earth, the desire of every nation, the joy of every heart, and the long-awaited child and King who was born to save his people. The One who has been waited for has come and he will come again!
As we head into the Christmas season, let us trust in him with patience and assurance believing that he has come to set his people free and that he will come again to lead us home.
